About the role

The Hutchins School maintains a tradition of developing fine young students prepared for today’s world who are balanced in intellectual, spiritual, emotional, social and physical skills. This is achieved through a strong boarding house culture and a pastoral care and wellbeing program, with participation in and reflection on a Christian life, a modern curriculum and a vast range of co-curricular activities.

We are looking to appoint a fixed term qualified Teacher Aide to join the team in The Early Learning Centre. 

This role reports to the Director of Kindergarten and Children's Services and will work closely with classroom teachers to holistically support our students. This position will see you supporting students both individually and in small groups.

The fixed term 4 day (Mon -Thur) term time only role will be covering parental leave in pre kinder class starting in February until the end of Term 2, 2026. 

 

Key accountabilities

  • Throughout the School day assisting the teacher to ensure that all students are playing safely, following classroom and School Rules and using appropriate social skills such as turn-taking and sharing.
  • Providing feedback to the teacher about any inappropriate student behaviour or misconduct.
  • Assisting students to go on bathroom breaks and to specialist classes, for example Library, Physical Education or Music.
  • Taking some form of instruction daily in independent or small group.
  • Participate as required in the student supervision roster during class break times.

General

  • Assist students with routine tasks such as toileting, shoelaces, clothes, lunches and belongings, putting notices in diaries.
  • Scribing or typing of student work when required.
  • Assist teachers with an evaluation of a student’s development. Discussing with the teacher individual student, classroom and school goals as well as any challenges that arise.
  • Provide one-on-one support or whole class support as directed by the classroom teacher.

Desired Skills and Experience

 

To be successful in this role you will:

  • Solve problems in a practical and timely manner.
  • Work well in a small team.
  • Completion of or actively working towards an ACECQA approved Certification III in Education Support or Diploma.
  • An understanding of the NQF, and EYLF
  • Proven numeracy and literacy skills
  • An understanding, gained through experience and/or attainment of formal qualifications, of health and safety in the workplace.
  • A current first aid qualification such as Provide First Aid in an education and care setting.
  • Ability to demonstrate basic computer skills and undertake word processing tasks in Microsoft Office software.
