Job Description

About the role

The Hutchins School is seeking a reliable and safety-conscious Bus Driver / Maintenance Assistant to join our Facilities and Maintenance Team on a casual basis.

This position plays a vital part in ensuring the smooth daily operations of our School through safe and dependable transportation services, as well as support with general maintenance tasks across the School. 

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide a safe, reliable and welcoming bus service for students. 
  • Conduct pre-trip safety checks and maintain a clean, presentable vehicle. 
  • Record student attendance on buses and ensure student behaviour aligns with expectations. 
  • Assist with general maintenance tasks such as minor repairs, painting, cleaning and groundskeeping.

The role of School Bus Driver is a trusted and visible presence within the Hutchins school community, the successful applicant will engage positively with students and staff, and upholding our school values of humility, kindness, courage and respect.

 

Essential Skills and Experience

  • A current Light Rigid (LR) Vehicle Licence.
  • A current First Aid qualification (HLTAID003 or equivalent) or willingness to obtain this qualification.
  • Demonstrated ability to relate to and successfully engage with children.
  • Demonstrated practical skills in maintenance and a willingness to assist across various duties.
  • A collaborative approach and ability to work as part of a small, dedicated team.

You will be expected to take reasonable care for your own safety and that of others, comply with WHS policies, and cooperate with procedures to ensure a safe working environment.

As part of our commitment to child safety, the successful applicant will:

  • Hold a current Registration to Work with Vulnerable People (Tasmania).
  • Provide a current National Police Check.
  • Comply with all School policies relating to safeguarding children and young people, conduct, and professional behaviour.
